For week 7, I helped Couck with attendance and CNN Student News. They took the quiz that I had made for them. Since I had testing and was sick, I was not there as much as I would have liked to be. Most of them did well on the quiz, considering it was from the week before and they were simple trivia questions pulled from information provided by CNN Student News. Also, we have prepared for Couck being gone and the substitute taking his place. Dear Couck, First off, I would like to thank you for allowing me to have this experience with you. It was great to get a hands-on experience with teaching. Also, thank you for helping me through the things I had struggled with, and having a patient persona about the situation all together. This is part of what makes you such a good teacher. Since I have started the program, you have showed me that teaching is not always easy, and not always fun. Getting students to want to learn and having them all complete tasks around the same time is difficult due to everyone having different learning patters as well as different levels of motivation. You have also taught me different ways to rearrange lesson plans to best fit the day and how fast the student's are moving. Also, you have showed me another way for students to learn while taking notes, and that they will do work based on how much or how little it seems to be. You help any student that needs it, and all you want back from them is respect. That is important because it forces people to learn that if you need something, kindness can get you a lot farther than demands. You have helped me realize that teaching is a good second option for me, if my first choice deems unwanted anymore. Thank you for the experience and thank you for everything that you have taught me. It would really help if I could have a letter of recommendation from you. Thank you! Hope all goes well and have a great summer, Emma working on a project!
Over the week, I have made a test for the students to take for CNN Student News. Also, I have checked in work with them and completed assignments to go over with them this week. I have started talking to the class and with the students more now. Couck is having me talk and go over worksheets and study material aloud with the class. this is moving me more towards my goal of being more vocal with the class.
Intelligence allows us to solve problems, think more creatively, and allow our company to flourish. I think intelligence is the most important factor in an employee because it can allow every trait to be visible, and you can learn to do anything. Also, if an employee is more intelligent, they can solve problems faster and be able to notice mistakes faster. More intelligence can allow the people to learn systems and how the company is run faster as well. Overall, intelligence is what moves a nation, so there is no reason for anyone to not want intelligent employees above anything else. Over the week I just kept grading papers and working with PowerSchool. Now attendance charts, grades, and the entity of the computer system are a breeze! Couck and I have made plans for me to become more vocal with the class, giving me the "real teacher experience". Public speaking is a challenge for me, so it shall be an unique experience. Rafiki's quote, "yes the past can hurt us; but we can either run from it or learn from it" really stuck out to me. My family often says a similar phrase, keeping in perspective that not all bad things are tragedies; bumps in the road make the trip worth while. cottage fun!
for week 4, I was only there for two days. However, in the two days, I helped couck make a game for his American History class. Also, I got a worksheet to complete so I can go over it with the class. I am going to start making questions for the daily show they watch.
Throughout the article, Brooks talked about resume and eulogy virtues. Resume virtues were characteristics that mattered in your career, and eulogy virtues were characteristics that made you who you were and whether or not you were a good person. Brooks explained that he had made it far in his career, but still did not have the eulogy virtues he desired. He explains at the end of the article that he wants to be a better person. He values being a good person over being a good worker. From this article, we can realize that not everything is about our career, and that we need to be a rounded person. this week was an easier week because we watched a movie Wednesday and Friday and did a web quest on Thursday. we went down to the library on Tuesday and I graded more papers. we just took notes on Monday, which he does on slide shows. I'm not sure if I would do notes on slides, but the format seems to be effective. coucks room has two large clusters of desks facing one another, with a cluster in the back facing the board. I read an article saying desks work best when they are all facing one another like a half crescent shape. it stimulates conversation, which is something we do a lot in government. also, couck has all of his file cabinets in one place, where I would rather have them more spread out to have the room more open. also, his whiteboard is behind students' heads, where I would rather it be 2 side by side. other than that, there is not much else that you can change in a classroom. Movie day!
Durung this week, I graded papers and got better at going through PowerSchool. I am finally used to the way Couck grades papers. Also, I have gotten better at learning the students' names as well as learning the seating chart. Grading papers is probably the most enjoyable thing we have done.
So far the class is going well. I have graded papers and checked in work, as well as learned how to use the grade book system for PowerSchool. My one goal is to be able to present one lesson. The only thing that makes me nervous or uncomfortable is having to talk in front of the class. Couck and I are working together great. For the next week, I hope to further my experience with PowerSchool and be able to do attendance based on last week's experience. [email protected] current time sheet! yay!
